“For me, The Pand is the best boutique hotel in Bruges and I will be coming back one day - soon!”

The Pand is one of a small number of luxury hotels in the city centre of Bruges. You’ll find it nestled amid the typical cobbled streets of medieval centre. Conveniently, it is located just meters from one of the most photographed sites in Burges: the Rozenhoedkaai (Quay of the Rosary). It’s central location means that the vast majority of the cities top attractions, such as the Market Square, the Basilica of the Holy Blood and the impressive Belfry of Bruges (‘Belfort’ in Dutch, and one of the cities most prominent landmarks), are all within easy reach on foot. If you want to dine out, the hotel is within 5 minutes walking distance of several top restaurants.

Bedrooms

What really stands out is The Pand’s unrelenting pursuit of quality and attention to detail. Each of the 26 bedrooms is covered head to foot with luxuriously decorated Ralph Lauren fabrics, antiques and other gorgeous art pieces. The hotel successfully embraces its 18th-century origins in a way that both compliments and accentuates its lavish origins as a stand-out Belgian manor house while also adopting a uniquely modern flair.

One of the main reasons I feel The Pand is one of the best boutique hotels in Bruges is that its rooms feel far more ‘home’ than ‘hotel’. The beds are large and extremely comfortable (with a multitude of pillows for those of you who enjoy that sort of thing). Each of the bedrooms is furnished with all of the amenities you would expect from a small, luxury boutique hotel and at a high degree of quality and finish.

Lounge and Library

If you’re someone who appreciates traditional, timeless design then look no further than the lounge/library of The Pand hotel. As a fan of history (I’m a serious history geek actually), I was utterly in my element. I enjoyed being transported back to the 18th-century, sitting in the library and pretending I was a French nobleman or general pondering over books, maps and battle plans (I told you I was a complete geek).

There’s everything you could want. Beautifully designed, comfortable furniture? Check. Roaring fire? Check. An array of gorgeous antiquities and colonial era books to enjoy? Check and check.

I love the cosy, dimly lit atmosphere that gives The Pand the feel of a stately home rather than that of a hotel. It’s one of the many reasons The Pand, for me, is the best boutique hotel in Bruges.

I enjoyed feeling like I was a guest of some Belgian noble and not a paying customer in the 21st century. It’s a unique feeling and perhaps one not everybody would cherish quite as much as I did. But if you are a lover of character and history you’re certainly in the right place.

The Service

Ok, so the hotel is beautiful, we get it – what about the service? Surely exceptional service is what would really make The Pand the best boutique hotel in Bruges? Well, I agree. Thankfully, the hotel service is sublime.

I was met by smiling, helpful staff who were more than happy to take care of our luggage and offer us a much-needed drink while I checked-in after the long train journey from London.

At every point during my stay, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and respectful to a fault. They appeared to take genuine pride in going above and beyond to make me feel welcome and well looked after.
